ARTomatic 2010-2011 VSA arts of Michigan is seeking artwork created by artists with disabilities of all ages for ARTomatic 2010, this coming year's Emerging Artists' Touring Exhibit. Artwork received by VSA arts of Michigan by the deadline of Friday, January 15, 2010, will be juried to create an exhibit of 40 pieces that includes a full range of ages, abilities, and geographical representation. Registration is still open for the VSA arts Institute, February 25-27, 2010. Through discussion and hands-on arts activities, participants in the VSA arts Institute will gain an understanding of the foundation of arts learning and inclusive education, and how to use inclusive practices in their work. National experts and artists will conduct exercises in inclusive learning environments and practices, evaluation and assessment, partnerships, and curriculum development. The VSA arts Institute is designed for arts education specialists, classroom teachers, teaching artists, curriculum developers, and arts administrators. The lessons learned in the four workshops of the institute are applicable to all fields of study by using the arts as a tool for learning in any discipline. Session 1 - Arts & Inclusive Learningwill focus on designing and delivering arts learning experiences that reach students of all learning abilities. Participants will gain and understanding of the foundations of inclusive education and arts-based learning, discuss theories and methods for teaching in inclusive environments, and engage in hands-on techniques that ensure progress for all students. Session 2 - Keeping What Works & Learning from the Restexamines the practices and benefits of documenting student learning in inclusive classrooms and evaluating program success. Participants will explore different methods of evaluation and consider the use of evaluation in planning for success. Session 3A - Winning Partnerships: Schools & Communities focuses on the benefits of partnering and ways to create successful partnerships among schools, educators, artists, and community organizations. Participants will learn approaches to problem solving explore the benefits of partnering programs, and how to build successful collaborators.
