The British Petroleum (BP) oil spill is an environmental, economic and social disaster that is affecting the livelihood and the economic stability of the entire Gulf Coast region. But the Gulf Coast's Vietnamese fishing community face some of the most daunting challenges ahead.

It is estimated that at least one-third of all fishing boats on the U.S. Gulf Coast are Vietnamese-American and Cambodian-American owned and operated.

According to Green For All, "13,000 fisherpeople are suffering and not being heard" because many of them only speak Vietnamese and are having difficulty navigating the little resources available. Some have already been taken advantage of by BP.

On Wednesday, Louisiana Congressman Anh "Joseph" Cao announced he's setting up a rapid response team to help Southeast Louisiana's Vietnamese-American community cope with the BP oil spill.

In the video above, Green For All interviews locals already experiencing the affects of the BP oil spill.
